Popular Bangladeshi actor K M Mosharraf Hossain (born 1971), known by his stage-name Mosharraf Karim has become 50 years of age today (Saturday, August 22). The immensely popular artiste is a household name for natural acting skills and on-screen comic talent.
Fans even address him as a living legend in Bangladeshi TV drama. The dedicated actor had regularly been entertaining his audience with fluency in different languages and accents of the country.
To mark his 50th birthday, The Report’s Showbiz team has compiled 5 unknown (or less known) facts about the popular actor.
01. Theatre upbringing
Karim, born in the capital's Khilgaon area, completed his secondary education in 1986 and since then he developed a fatal attraction for acting. He joined veteran Bangladeshi actor Tariq Anam Khan's Natyakendra Mancha Dal in Dhaka. His acting grooming came from his theatre background. He is still a member of that troupe and from time to time performs in stage plays with them.
02. Struggling start
Karim was not an overnight sensation in the industry. He worked on stage dramas for a long time and finally in 1999 got casted for a small role in a TV drama called ‘Otithi,’directed by Ferdous Hasan. He worked regularly on television up until 2004 but still did not receive any recognition.
Then he got to play the lead role in popular telefilm ‘Kyarom’, alongside Nusrat Imroz Tisha. This shot him to fame in the TV industry.
Another play 'Hefaz Bhai' directed by Syed Awlad also gave him critical acclaim during that time.
03. From Shamim to Mosharraf
Karim’s real name is K M Mosharraf Hossain. He also has a nickname, Shamim, within his family members. He is still addressed as Shamim by his relatives. After the release and audience acceptance of the popular 2004 telefilm ‘Kyarom’ he decided to go with the stage name Mosharraf Karim.
04. 600+ TV dramas, 11 films
According to several media reports Mosharraf has starred in more than 600 television dramas in Bangladesh. His roles in the popular daily soaps like ‘420,’ ‘FnF’ and ‘House Full’ made him a household name all over the country.
He also starred in 11 feature films. He made his silver screen debut with Tauquir Ahmed’s Liberation War film ‘Joyjatra.’ He played a character called Foni Moyra a.k.a Farid Ali.
He was last seen in the internationally acclaimed Indian film ‘Dictionary’ directed by Bratya Basu. His role of Makar Kanti Chatterjee in this film gave him widespread critical acclaim.
05. Love life
Karim met his wife Robena Reza Jui back in 2000. Karim at that time, taught at a coaching centre near his home. His wife Jui, who is also a television actor, used to study in that same coaching centre. From there, they got to know each other, which turned into love and later on marriage.
The happily married couple has a son named Roben Ryan Karim.
