TikTok sensation Yasin Arafat Opu, better known as ‘TikToker Opu Bhai’ or ‘Ofu Bai,’ is seen in the cringy trailer of Chorki original web film ‘YouTumor.’ The project will be the directorial debut of popular ad filmmaker Adnan Al Rajeev.
The trailer is being widely shared by ‘Opu Bhai’ fans on TikTok and other social media platforms.
The badly edited trailer did not have any focused story to tell and started off with fake reviews from renowned filmmakers around the globe. It is an interesting concept to play around but the quotes did not pack enough punch to create a laugh.
Cringy/trash/awkward comedy or subversive humour is a work of art if done right as seen in popular television series like ‘Brooklyn 99’ or ‘The Office.’
If Rajeev’s intention were to keep the film as cringy as its trailer then this might be the starting of a new era of awkward comedy in Bangladeshi fiction productions. Yet, halfway through, the trailer turns to a more dramatic chain of events which seems very confusing.
Popular actors Pritom Hasan and Ziaul Hoque Polash will play in the film’s lead roles.
Syed Gousul Alam Shaon, producer and country head (Bangladesh) of the multinational advertising agency Grey Group, was also seen in a major portion of the trailer.
The trailer lacked anything eventful and just seemed like a big-budget showcase of all popular Bangladeshi social media influencers like Kareena Kaiser, Salman Muktadir, among many others.
Opu bhai’s presence in a mainstream content like ‘YouTumor’ has again opened a lot of discussions on Bangladeshi social media feeds.
Previously, Arafat Opu, known as ‘Ofu Bai’, had been arrested by the police on August 3 last year along with an accomplice named Nazmul Hossain on charges of assaulting, harassing and beating three youths in the capital’s Uttara region.
This created a mixed reaction among netizens back then and he was temporarily banned from TikTok and Likee. He was granted bail on August 17, 2020.
Opu, a 21-year-old TikTok and Likee video maker, was one of the first TikTok content creators in Bangladesh to gain more than a million followers. He is originally from Sonaimuri, Noakhali and now creates content on YouTube and TikTok.
