After years away from the spotlight, actress Poppy is finally returning to the silver screen. Her film Direct Attack, directed by Sadek Siddiki, is set to release in theaters across the country on October 17.
This marks her comeback after six years, with her last released film being Kamruzzaman Kammu’s The Director, which premiered on June 5, 2019.
Before stepping away, Poppy had completed work on Direct Attack. Although she began a few other projects afterward, those films never reached completion. Originally titled Sahoshi Joddha, the film began shooting in 2018 and received clearance from the censor board in 2021 under the name Direct Attack. Despite multiple release announcements, it was postponed due to the pandemic, floods, and political unrest. This time, however, director Sadek Siddiki confirmed there will be no further delays.
Sadek Siddiki said, “We planned several releases earlier, but circumstances forced us to step back—first COVID-19, then floods, and last year’s political unrest. Now, in October, we are determined to bring the film to audiences.”
The director and producer of the film also revealed that discussions have taken place with Poppy regarding her involvement in the film’s promotions.
“We are trying to involve Poppy in publicity. I’ve already spoken to her about it, but nothing is final yet. If she joins, it will be easier to connect with audiences. Many fans still want to see Poppy on screen,” he added.
Direct Attack is an action film portraying the fight against social injustice. Poppy plays a police officer, while Amin Khan stars opposite her as a gangster. The cast also includes Mamnoon Emon, Shirin Shila, and Abhi.
When asked if the long delay might affect the film, Sadek Siddiki replied:
“I don’t think so. Social injustice, terrorism, and corruption haven’t disappeared. The film’s story is still relevant today. Since it’s an action-based movie, I believe audiences will enjoy it and won’t be disappointed.”
