Actor Sai Pallavi has revealed that she once turned down a reported Rs 2 crore endorsement offer for a fairness cream, saying she did not want to promote a product that could make people feel insecure about their skin colour.
Speaking in an earlier interview with Bollywood Hungama, the Ramayana: Part 1 actor said she has always believed people should embrace their natural appearance instead of trying to meet society`s beauty standards.
"I believe you need to be confident about who you are and your skin colour," she said, explaining why she has never endorsed beauty products and prefers to appear on screen with minimal makeup.
Sai Pallavi said her decision was deeply personal and stemmed partly from her younger sister`s experiences.
She recalled how people often suggested that her sister eat certain foods in the hope of becoming fairer, something she found upsetting.
"I felt I needed to stand up for that, at least for my sister`s sake. Otherwise, what would I do with all that money?" she said.
The actor also reflected on her own struggle with acne before entering the film industry.
She admitted she used several skincare products at the time because she was uncomfortable with her appearance and often avoided going out.
"I didn`t want to leave home because I thought people would only notice my pimples," she said.
That changed after her acting debut in the 2015 Malayalam hit Premam. Sai Pallavi said audiences accepted her despite her acne, giving her the confidence to embrace her natural look.
She added that many young people later told her they felt inspired after seeing someone succeed without hiding skin conditions, reinforcing her decision not to promote products that might make others question their appearance.
While explaining her stance, Sai Pallavi said she respects the choices of actors who endorse such brands but prefers to remain true to her own beliefs.
