Simon: There is no story in ‘Neel Mukut’

Internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi filmmaker Kamar Ahmad Simon has recently warned viewers that there is no story in his upcoming docu-drama ‘Neel Mukut,’ slated to release on Bangladeshi OTT platform Chorki. He said this in a promotional video released today (Tuesday, August 3) on Chorki’s official YouTube channel.

Simon said: “As I said before, there is no story in Nilmukut, but at the end of the day I can say for sure that no one will return empty-handed after seeing the picture.”

“Audience has the right to ask why isn’t there a storyline? Then I can ask back that why there has to be a storyline?

“Story is the form of literature and the language of literature and film are not the same,” he added.

The director warned an excited audience to not look for generic storytelling in his highly anticipated film.

The film will be available for streaming on Prothom Alo’s new OTT platform Chorki, marking the filmmaker’s birthday, according to recent press reports.

The film was slated for release on March 27, 2020, but was postponed indefinitely amidst the coronavirus scare.

Film-maker Kamar, the official invitee at Cannes-Berlin-Locarno, surprised everyone last year by promising to release the film locally before participating in any international festival.

‘Neel Mukut’ is produced by Sara Afreen.

Simon and Sara's debut film 'Shunte Ki Pao? (Are You Listening!)' received the National Film Award and numerous international awards.
