In a recent interview, popular Bangladeshi TV director Chayanika Chowdhury claimed that she had no personal relationship with recently detained Dhallywood star Pori Moni. She also claimed her relationship with Pori was strictly professional and they only talked about work and sometimes contacted each other for work-related queries.
Pori Moni made headlines in June after demanding justice on Facebook after she was allegedly subjected to torture at Ashulia’s Dhaka Boat Club on June 8. Chayanika, whom Pori addresses as ‘Mom,’ was seen beside her during the press conferences the Dhallywood star held at that period.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) raided Pori Moni’s Banani home on August 4 afternoon following a viral Facebook live drama from the starlet’s verified Facebook fan page. She was later on detained.
Netizens are asking why Chayanika was not seen beside Pori after she was detained. Pori also recently signed the contract to star in Chayanika’s upcoming web film ‘Ontorale.’
When asked about the matter Chayanika told several media outlets: "We have respect for the country's law enforcement agencies. The incident just happened. It is not right to say anything now. We will wait for a while and will take a decision after understanding the situation with the production company and the whole team.”
Pori was also the star of Chayanika’s debut film ‘Bishwoshundori,’ co-starring with popular actor Siam Ahmed. Out of the 30+ films in her career, ‘Bissho Shundori’ is known to be the second commercially successful film of Pori along with acclaimed filmmaker Gias Uddin Selim’s ‘Swapnajaal.’
Pori also signed to star as Bengali revolutionary nationalist Pritilata Waddedar in Rashid Polash helmed biopic ‘Pritilata.’ The team recently told the press that they will wait for Pori before assigning a new actor for the role.
Bengal Multimedia had also signed her for the lead role alongside Siam Ahmed in the film ‘Biopic.’
Producers and directors who have recently announced work with her are also in serious trouble after this situation. Some announced projects worth crores of taka are under serious threat.
After the raid on Wednesday (August 4), RAB Director Moin said 33 bottles of different types of foreign liquor, more than 150 used foreign liquor bottles, yaba tablets, LSD and “ice” were recovered from Pori Moni’s home.
After the raid, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has filed a case against Samsunnahar Smriti, known by her stage name Pori Moni, and her manager Ashraful Islam with Banani police station under the Narcotics Control Act on Thursday (August 5).
A minibar was found at Pori Moni’s Banani residence where she regularly arranged parties, RAB told the press.
On June 14, she filed a case against businessperson and former Uttara Club president Nasir U Mahmood and five others, charging them with attempting to rape and murder her.
Following the filing of the case, law enforcers arrested Nasir, who later claimed that Pori Moni and her companions had been in a drunken state on the night in question.
Later on June 16, Gulshan's All Community Club President KM Alamgir alleged that Pori Moni and her friends had run amok at the club late on June 7.
