Bangladesh face Afghanistan as T20 series begins today

Just days after their crucial Asia Cup victory over Afghanistan, Bangladesh are set to meet the same opponents once again, this time in a three-match T20I series starting Thursday in Sharjah.

The first match kicks off at 9pm Bangladesh time and will be broadcast live on T Sports.

The Tigers head into the series with a clear mission. Although Afghanistan hold a slight edge in head-to-head encounters—winning 7 of the 13 T20Is played so far compared to Bangladesh’s 6—recent results have favored Bangladesh.

The Tigers have lost only once in their last four T20Is against Afghanistan and even whitewashed them in the most recent bilateral T20I series in Sylhet.

Stand-in skipper Zakir Ali has made it clear that improving the batting unit will be the team’s top priority after their struggles in the Asia Cup.

“Our main focus will be to perform collectively as a batting unit, because that’s where we struggled in the tournament. We want to correct that in this series,” he said.

Zakir also admitted that the absence of Liton Das in Bangladesh’s last two Asia Cup matches significantly hurt the team’s batting.

“The news about Liton was hard for us to accept. He was the captain and in good batting form, so his absence had a big impact. But now we’re looking forward and aiming to do well,” he added.
