Coach Lionel Scaloni said that Di Maria had left discomfort in his thigh, so he decided to replace him to avoid any risk.
Tyc Sports in Argentina reports that Di Maria underwent a medical examination on Thursday’s morning which did not highlight a muscle lesion.
According to the report, the ex-PSG star has been diagnosed with a contracture in his left thigh.
The 34-year-old remains in doubt for Saturday’s Round of 16 clash with Australia.
Di Maria has been struggling with injuries this season making just 10 appearances with the Old Lady and missing 12 games.
