Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023 on Saturday. The selection panel of BCB has overlooked experienced allrounder Mahmudullah Riyad while Tanzid Hasan Tamim made it to the squad for the first time.
Tanzid, the left-handed opener, was the best Bangladeshi batter in the last ACC Emerging Asia Cup that was held in Sri Lanka. He scored three fifties in four matches that paved the way for him to the national team. The batter was one of the main performers when Bangladesh won the U-19 World Cup in 2020.
Nasum Ahmed, Mahedi Hasan, and Mohammad Naim have also found a place each in the team. Nasum did not play any ODI after the Ireland series at home, while right-handed allrounder Mahedi played his last ODI in 2021 in New Zealand.
This year’s Asia Cup will be played at venues across Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Along with Bangladesh, a total of six teams are participating in the Asia Cup.
Shakib Al Hasan (Captain), Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Mahedi Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Shamim Hossain, Afif Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Ebadot Hossain, Mohammad Naim and Nasum Ahmed.
