Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April, following his outstanding performance in the Test series against Zimbabwe.
The ICC announced the award on its official website, with Miraz edging past Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani and New Zealand’s Ben Sears.
Miraz becomes the third Bangladeshi cricketer to win the ICC Player of the Month award, following in the footsteps of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim.
This is the first time the 27-year-old spin all-rounder has received the honor.
In the two-Test series held in Sylhet and Chattogram, which ended in a 1–1 draw, Miraz scored 116 runs in three innings at an average of 38.66, including a century. With the ball, he was the top wicket-taker, claiming 15 wickets across four innings.
Despite Bangladesh losing the first Test in Sylhet by 3 wickets, Miraz took five wickets in each of Zimbabwe’s two innings. In the second Test in Chattogram, he scored a crucial 104 runs in Bangladesh’s first innings after Zimbabwe were bowled out for 227.
He then took five more wickets as Zimbabwe collapsed for 111 in their second innings, leading Bangladesh to a dominant victory by an innings and 106 runs.
Reacting to the award, Miraz told the ICC, “It’s an incredible honor to be named ICC Player of the Month.
Any ICC award is a pinnacle for a cricketer, and to be selected through a global voting process makes it even more special.
Moments like these remind me of my journey, including being named the Player of the Tournament at the 2016 U-19 World Cup. This award holds a similar significance.”
He added, “This recognition gives me further motivation to perform even better for my country. I’m grateful to my teammates, coaches, and fans—this award is for them too.”
Prior to Miraz, the last Bangladeshi male cricketer to win the award was Shakib Al Hasan in March 2023.
