In a thrilling final at Providence, Rangpur Riders stunned Cricket Victoria by 56 runs to win the first-ever ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) title. The victory was a historic moment, marking the Riders` successful debut in a foreign T20 tournament.
Rangpur, the only Bangladeshi team in the competition, were led by captain Nurul Hasan, who won the toss and chose to bat first.
The decision paid off as openers Steven Taylor and Soumya Sarkar built a solid partnership of 124 runs in just 14 overs.
Taylor was aggressive, scoring 68 runs before he was dismissed by Karima Gore. Sarkar, however, remained unbeaten, finishing with a brilliant 86 off 54 balls, including seven fours and five sixes. The Riders ended their innings with an impressive 178-3 in 20 overs.
Victoria, known for their strong performances throughout the tournament, started their chase with hope. Joe Clarke played an attacking knock, scoring 40 runs off 22 balls, but the pressure built up as wickets fell quickly. The Australian side was bowled out for just 122 runs in the 18th over.
The Riders’ bowlers were excellent, with Harmeet Singh standing out. His slow left-arm spin led to figures of 3-19 from four overs, while Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, and Saif Hassan each picked up two wickets to wrap up the victory.
This win marks a huge achievement for Rangpur Riders, as they become the first-ever GSL champions in their maiden appearance on the international T20 stage.
