Bangladesh cricket star Shakib Al Hasan, known for his amazing all-round skills, is in the spotlight for the first time in his career due to concerns over his bowling action.
Shakib, who has played 447 international matches and taken 712 wickets since 2006, has been asked by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to undergo a formal test to check his bowling action.
The issue came up after Shakib played in a County Championship match last September.
He was filling in for Surrey, who were missing several of their regular players, including two spinners.
This was Shakib’s first County game since 2011-12, and he put in an impressive performance, taking 9 wickets in the match. Unfortunately, Surrey lost the game by 111 runs.
In the match, Shakib bowled a total of 63 overs, and none of his deliveries were called ‘no ball’ by the umpires during the game. However, it was later revealed that the two umpires in charge of the match had raised concerns about the legality of his bowling action.
At the moment, Shakib has not been banned or punished, but he has been asked to go through a formal test to check his action. According to reports, Shakib is expected to undergo this test in the coming weeks.
If Shakib’s bowling action does not pass the test, he could be banned from playing cricket for a period of 3, 6, or even 12 months. During this time, he would need to correct his action before being allowed to return to the game.
This is the first time in his career that Shakib has faced such an issue. He is currently in the United States, and there is no ban on him at the moment.
Shakib had planned to retire after playing in the Champions Trophy next February, but if a ban is imposed, he may have to change his plans and delay his retirement. Fans and fellow cricketers are eagerly waiting to see how this situation unfolds.
