Shakib Al Hasan, one of Bangladesh’s most famous cricketers, has signed with a new team for the upcoming Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League despite facing significant challenges and uncertainties.
On Saturday, February 22, Shakib officially joined the Legends of Rupganj, and the club is hopeful that he will be available for the start of the league, which kicks off next month.
Shakib has not been able to return to Bangladesh since the student-public uprising, which has caused an ongoing tense situation.
In fact, Shakib had initially planned to return to Dhaka before the South Africa series in November, but due to what he described as "unfavorable conditions," he had to leave Dubai and return to the United States instead.
His challenges have not only been political; Shakib also faced restrictions in his cricketing career.
His effectiveness on the field was impacted after being penalized for issues with his bowling action.
Despite these obstacles, Shakib made his move to the new team official by submitting his transfer documents online on the first day of the transfer window for the Dhaka Premier League.
Last season, Shakib played for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, but changes in the team’s sponsorship structure led to his departure.
The Dhaka Premier League is set to begin in the first week of March, and player transfers are being conducted both online and offline, with the window open today and tomorrow.
