Shanto 163, Mominul 127 propel Bangladesh to 474/4

Bangladesh registered their third-highest total, with the top three scores in the list all coming away from home.

Nazmul Hossain Shanto struck 163 and captain Mominul Haque 127 as Bangladesh posted a commanding 474 runs for the loss of four wickets at stumps on day two of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Kandy Thursday.

Mushfiqur Rahim (43*) and Liton Das (25*) were the unbeaten batsmen at the crease after Shanto and Mominul's 242-run stand took Bangladesh to a formidable position.

This was Bangladesh's highest ever third-wicket stand, and the 11th time the Tigers have posted a 200-plus partnership in Tests, with four coming against the Lankans.

This was also Bangladesh's third highest partnership away from home for any wicket, and fifth highest for any wicket overall. 

Shanto is only the second Bangladeshi to cross 150 in his maiden Test ton, Mominul (181) being the other.

This was also the first time in Bangladesh's Test history that both the No 3 and 4 batsmen scored a hundred in the same innings.
