BNP Standing Committee Member Abdul Moyeen Khan on Saturday said the country‍‍`s film industry achieved significant progress during BNP administrations and expressed hope that the sector would continue to receive priority under the current government.

Speaking at a programme marking the 45th death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman, Moyeen Khan said the vision and initiatives introduced by the late president should be carried forward to strengthen Bangladesh‍‍`s film industry.

The event was organised by the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Cholochitra Parishad at the entrance of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation in Dhaka.

Moyeen Khan highlighted several initiatives taken during Ziaur Rahman‍‍`s tenure, including the introduction of the National Film Awards and film grants, the establishment of the Bangladesh Cinema and Television Institute and the Bangladesh Film Archive, and efforts to modernise the country‍‍`s film infrastructure.

He also credited Ziaur Rahman with helping transform Bangladesh Television from black-and-white to colour broadcasting and supporting the development of BFDC.

As part of the programme, organisers distributed sarees and lungis among more than 500 people.

The event was chaired by film director Badiul Alam Khokon, while actor Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Uzzal attended as a special guest.

Special prayers were offered for the late Ziaur Rahman, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and her late son Arafat Rahman Koko.

Earlier in the day, a Quran khatam and Fateha programme was also held as part of the commemoration.

The programme received support from the BFDC Jatiyatabadi Employees Association.
