Nahid Rana`s fierce pace tore through the West Indies batting lineup, bowling them out for just 146 runs.
The right-arm fast bowler took 5 wickets for 61 runs, his best performance in Test cricket.
At the end of the third day, Bangladesh finished at 193/5 in their second innings, leading by 211 runs. Zakir Ali and Taijul Islam will continue batting on the fourth day.
Rana’s aggressive bowling brought back memories of past fast-bowling legends like Andy Roberts and Curtly Ambrose.
On a pitch that has historically been a tough place for batters, Rana proved to be a rising star in the cricket world. His pace and bounce troubled the West Indian batsmen, making life difficult for them at the crease.
With his career-best figures, Rana didn’t just break West Indies` batting, he also brought Bangladesh back into the game, raising hopes of a win in Jamaica.
The West Indies started the third day at 70/1, looking strong, but Rana and the other Bangladeshi pacers quickly turned things around. Rana got the big wicket of Craig Brathwaite first, then dismissed Kavem Hodge and Alzarri Joseph soon after.
Kacey Carty, who had been set on the pitch, was sent packing by Hasan Mahmud.
Taskin Ahmed, Taijul Islam, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz also contributed by taking wickets.
Rana completed his maiden five-wicket haul by getting Kemar Roach out.
Apart from the top three batsmen, no other West Indian player managed to score in double digits. They were all out for 146, their second-lowest total against Bangladesh in Tests.
Bangladesh came out to bat in their second innings with a small lead of 18 runs. However, opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy was dismissed for a duck in the very first over.
But Shahadat Dipu fought back, launching an attack on the West Indian bowlers. After his dismissal, Mehidy Hasan Miraz took charge, while Shadman Islam held firm at the other end.
Both Shadman and Miraz contributed valuable innings of more than 40 runs each, pushing Bangladesh’s lead further.
In a change to the usual batting order, Mominul Haque did not come out to bat. Zakir Ali and Taijul Islam were unbeaten at the end of the day.
