'Shunte ki pao' conducted a two days medical campaign at Thanchi, Bandarban. During the rainy season, the outbreak of malaria and diarrhoea is a common phenomenon in remote regions like Bandarban. This year the situation became excruciating, and consequently, few lost their lives in Rekmari already. Most of those villages follow the upstream of the Sangu river, which takes almost one to two days to reach by boat. And these villages have no electricity, mobile network, or road connection.
The voluntary organisation 'Shunte ki pao' came to the rescue. While the visit, they found the villagers consulted a doctor is a rare case. However, few managed to purchase medicines from the Upazila Sadar way, far from the villages.
Local health workers, Government officials, and BGB also never missed putting their best to reach the villages and serve the people there. Yet, the limitations no doubt limit any entity willing to help those villages. For the last two months, BGB 57 battalion has been putting all the efforts in this world to best support those remote areas by providing medicine and doctors. Although the situation is comparatively stable now, doctors' consultation and awareness now seem more important than ever before.
Dr Etminan Kabir mentioned, "This is the third time I am joining a medical campaign and this time, in the most remote area of Thanchi. We tried everything to provide full course medicines to all and consultations to the local people. All children have received anthelmintic. Hope it will help."
Despite all limitations, 'Shunte Ki Pao' conducted two medical campaigns on 10th and 11th August at Yongdong Mro Village and Lake Village. 150 people from 5 villages took the medical abode under their doctors and physiotherapists and received free medicines. Two doctors, one medical assistant, two physiotherapists, and fourteen local and central volunteers successfully organised the medical camp. Almost 60% of the patients were children and women. 15% came with orthopaedics problems, 10% with allergies, and 15% with malaria and diarrhoea. Local volunteers played a vital role in translating and maintaining a sound relationship with the villagers, while BGB 57 Battalion assured the medical team's security and supported throughout to make the campaign successful.
Jhantu Karmakar, the local coordinator of this project, mentioned, 'It was a successful campaign, and it has come out successful only because the local administration, BGB, and volunteers helped. We left the place sharing our contacts so that they can connect us any moment in case of emergency."
'Shunte Ki Pao' is a voluntary trust that has previously worked for underprivileged people since 2013. In 2020, Shunte Ki Pao initiated a project named 'Project Alo: Sustho Deho, Shundor Mon' for the tribal people of Bandarban, a district of CHT hill tracts. And the organization intends to cover more remote areas in the future.
