30 lakh Moderna shots to arrive Dhaka Monday evening

30 lakh doses of coronavirus vaccines produced by US pharmaceutical company Moderna will arrive Dhaka today (July 19).

Confirming the matter to media foreign ministry officials said, “The flight carrying the shots was scheduled to touch down Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Monday morning.

However, the flight was later rescheduled and is expected to arrive around 7:30pm this evening.

The US sent this consignment as part of Covax project which was jointly initiated by Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunisations (GAVI) of World Health Organisation (WHO) and Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations in a bid to assure vaccine for all people across the globe.

The Joe Biden administration gave 50 lakh vaccines to Bangladesh out of 3 crore dosesas part of the project.

On June 22, Washington announced to provide 1.6 crore Covid-19 shots to 18 Asian countries including Bangladesh through Covax. Besides, the country will share doses with Bangladesh from an allocation of 1.4 crore doses to 30 nations and alliances.

Earlier on June 3, the Biden administration declared to disburse 2.5 core vaccines among different countries. Some 70 lakh doses were allocated for Asian nations including Bangladesh.
