Burglars have stolen 45 tola of gold jewellery breaking into the house of a former additional inspector general of police in Dhaka's Eskaton area.
According to family members, the burglars cut window grill of the upper floor of the duplex flat of Khandaker Mozammel Haque and made away with the gold ornaments along with some foreingh currency.
Mozammel's wife Mitali Hossain said: "We saw the room locked from inside in the morning. We opened it and saw the the room was ransacked and robbers took away the entire locker with 45 tola of gold and currencies."
"We believe an organised gang is behind the robbery," she said, adding they will file a case with Ramna Police Station in this regard.
Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Staion, said they heard that 40-45 tola of gold was stolen from the former police officer's house.
"We are investigating it," he added.
