The country will receive 54 lakh more doses of coronavirus vaccine from Covax project and China within August 15, said health minister Jahid Maleque. As many as 30 lakh people have been pushed the Covid-19 shots so far during the ongoing mass immunisation campaign, added he.
The minister was speaking to the reporters during a press conference held at the secretariat on Monday (August 9).
“34 lakh doses of Covax vaccine will arrive from August 9-15. China will send 10 lakh under agreement while the country will gift 10 lakh more. These doses will expedite our mass vaccination drive,” Jahid Maleque said.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina nodded to buy 6 crore doses from China and the country also gave their signal. The deal will be sealed if the Executive Committee of the National Economic Committee (ECNEC),” the minister furthered.
Out of 6 crore shots, 1.05 crore will come in September, 2 crore in October and 2 crore in November, Maleque went saying.
He assured of occurring no shortfall of doses saying that the immunisation jab will continue. Senior citizens in rural areas will get priority as the death rate among them is 90 per cent.
