8 Bangladeshis died, 27 rescued alive in Tunisia boat capsize

Eight Bangladeshis died after a boat capsized off the Tunisian coast, confirmed the Bangladesh embassy in Libya. 

Among the deceased Bangladeshis are Sajal, Nayan Biswas, Mamun Sheikh, Kazi Sajib of Rajair Upazila of Madaripur, Rifat, Rasel, Imrul Kayes Apan, Kaiser of Maksudpur Upazila Gopalganj. 

Twenty-seven Bangladeshis, including one in a critical state, were rescued after the February 15 incident.

The severely injured Bangladeshi has been identified as as Monotosh Sarkar, son of Monoronjon Sarkar, a resident of Amgram Union in Rajoir.

According to the Bangladesh embassy, steps are being undertaken to return the bodies of victims and those rescued to Bangladesh following proper legal procedures.

At least nine people died when a boat carrying migrants caught fire off Tunisia‍‍`s coast. A group of 52 migrants left for Europe by boat from the Libyan coast. During their journey, the boat carrying them caught fire off the coast of Tunisia.

An embassy delegation arrived in Tunisia yesterday (February 19) to meet with the local authorities and rescued people to assure cooperation and collect specific information about the Bangladeshis who died.
