Recently, information has been spread through various social media - Farooque, the recently deceased actor, has a bank loan of five thousand 533 crores. Many people are confused by such information. Many are also claiming that this information is a rumor.
But the real facts are that Freedom Fighter, actor, and Member of Parliament Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque took a loan of about 56 crore taka from Sonali Bank. Against that loan, the default amount was about 100 crores. The bank authorities contacted him several times but could not collect the money. On the contrary, the case is ongoing. Several officials of Sonali Bank confirmed this to The Report.live.
The General Manager (GM) of the local office of Sonali Bank, Rezaul Karim told The Report.live, "I have been hearing for two days that he has defaulted on a loan of 5,500 crore taka. In fact, he took a loan of 56 crores from our bank. It has been 100 crores including the capital and interest. But his loan was rescheduled. The case is still ongoing. Therefore, action will be taken according to the decision of the court.
In 2006, he took a loan of Tk 56 crore against Farooque Dyeing and Knitting Company. However, he said that the amount of this loan was 'conspiratorial' at various times. And due to this debt disaster, he defaulted on about 100 crore taka with interest. In 2013, Sonali Bank filed a lawsuit to recover this loan, but he did not pay any installments.
In 2016, this late actor was on the list of top loan defaulters of Sonali Bank. In addition, he participated in the National Assembly elections despite having defaulted on loans, which caused a storm of criticism and controversy at that time. In view of this, a writ was filed seeking to know whether his candidature in 2019 is valid. In that writ, he has been mentioned as a defaulter of Tk 5,500 crore.
According to several bank sources, the loan of actor Farooque was rescheduled before the 2018 elections. As a result, there was no legal bar to participate in the election as there was no name in the list of defaulters. He was elected Member of Parliament bearing the burden of this debt.
Meanwhile, 15 crores have been spent on his treatment. In response to a question about whether a defaulter can spend money on medical treatment abroad without repaying the bank, the GM of Sonali Bank said, "In fact, the sectors from which he took the money were not mortgaged to the bank. So we cannot legally prevent it."
Meanwhile, the former president of the Producers Association, member of the Film Censor Board, and producer, Khorshed Alam Khosru said that the allegations of defaulting in the name of actor Farooque are baseless. And actor Farooque's son Roshan Hossain did not agree to comment on this matter now.
