Four fishermen were abducted by the Arakan Army, a rebel group from Myanmar, on Tuesday morning while they were fishing in the Naf River at Teknaf, Cox‍‍`s Bazar.

The fishermen were captured at gunpoint from the Golarchar area near Shahpari Island.

The fishermen who were taken are Mohammad Hasan (30), a boatman from South Para in Shahpari Island, Abdur Rakim (20), Mohammad Jaber (26), and Mohammad Hasan (16). They were all fishing in the river when the armed group arrived and kidnapped them.

Sheikh Ehsan Uddin, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Teknaf, confirmed the incident and said,

"While fishing in the Naf River, the fishermen were taken by the Arakan Army. We are trying to get in touch with them to secure the fishermen’s release."

This is not the first such incident. On October 6 of last year, 58 fishermen and their six fishing trawlers were seized by Myanmar’s navy while they were fishing in the deep sea.

The Myanmar Navy also fired at a Bangladeshi trawler, injuring three fishermen.

Tragically, one of the injured fishermen died on the spot. The fishermen were later released after being detained.

This abduction raises concerns about the safety of fishermen in the area and the ongoing tensions between Bangladesh and Myanmar over such incidents.

Authorities are actively working to secure the release of the abducted fishermen and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
