At least 7 killed in Dinajpur lightning strikes

Lightning strikes have killed at least 7 people in Dinajpur injuring 3 more, police confirmed.

Kotwali Police station sources said, the thunderstorm killed four youths at Railghunti area in the district on Monday (August 23).

All of the victims were playing games in mobile during the incident.   

The slain were identified as Sazzsad Hossain (13), son of Ainul Islam, Apon (14) son of Babul Hossain, Hasan Ali (12) son of late Siddik Hossain and Mim Mondol (13) son of Sazu Mondol.

Mominul Islam (13), Atik (15) and another, who was not identified immediately, sustained injury.  

Kotwali station’s Officer in Charge (OC) Md. Mozzaffar Hossain said, “The deceased were playing mobile games when the lightning stroke. Four victims died on the spot. The injured victims were admitted to local hospital. All of them hail from Nishintapur village of Dinajpur Sadar upazila.”

Meanwhile, Chirirbandar police station officials said, another three people died in the area due to lightning strikes. The deceased were identified as Abdur Razzak (28) son of Saimul Islam, Nur Islam (26) son of Moksed Ali and Abbas Ali (25) son of Altaf Hossain.  

Officer in Charge (OC) Subrata Sarkar confirmed the matter to The Report.

“The victims were fishing at a nearby pond while the incident occurred,” Subrata said.
