Autorickshaw cylinder gas leakage, 5 members of same family burnt

Five passengers in the same family were burnt in a CNG-powered autorickshaw that caught fire due to cylinder gas leakage. On Monday around 12:30 noon, they were burnt when the gas cylinder of the autorickshaw leaked on the south side of the new bridge of Bakolia police station in Chittagong. The CNG-powered autorickshaw was going from Karnaphuli to Bahaddarhat.

Bakolia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rahim confirmed the matter to TheReport.live.

The injured are Bilkis Begum (28), Josna Begum (28), Sathi Akhter (17), Jannat (8) and Kainat (3). All of them are residents of Godar Par in North Shikalbaha of Karnaphuli Police Station and are members of the same family, according to Bakolia Police Station.

Bakolia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Abdur Rahim told TheReport.Live, “The CNG-powered auto-rickshaw caught fire on the south side of Baklia Police Station's new bridge on its way from Karnaphuli to Bahaddarhat. The whole family was more or less burnt in the fire. However, when the condition of the child named Jannat in the CNG was a little critical, she was admitted to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital.”

The officer in charge of Bakolia police station also said that the autorickshaw fire was brought under control with the efforts of the people present there. The fire started due to gas leakage from the cylinder. The CNG driver fled when the fire broke out. The autorickshaw has been taken into police custody.
