The Christian community in Bangladesh is celebrating Christmas Day today, just as it is being celebrated around the world, to mark the birth of Jesus Christ.
Christmas, the biggest religious festival for Christians, is a time for rebirth, fresh beginnings, forgiveness, and peace.
It’s also a moment to strengthen relationships with both God and fellow human beings.
Festivities today include decorating Christmas trees with bright, colorful lights, offering special prayers, giving gifts to children, and exchanging warm greetings.
Churches are filled with the sound of Christmas carols and hymns, which will be sung before and after prayer sessions.
A group of singers will also perform carols at the reception.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, and various private TV channels and radio stations are broadcasting special programs to highlight the importance of Christmas, adding to the festive atmosphere.
On Tuesday, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus met with representatives of the Christian community at the State Guesthouse Jamuna in Dhaka to celebrate the occasion.
He expressed his greetings and called for unity, urging everyone to "maintain religious harmony in the country, ignoring the identity of minority and majority."
In another show of goodwill, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman visited Archbishop Bejoy N. D`Cruze`s residence in Kakrail on Tuesday to extend his Christmas and New Year greetings to the Christian community.
His visit added to the spirit of the holiday season.
To ensure a safe and peaceful celebration, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a public notice prohibiting the use of fireworks, firecrackers, and sky lanterns during Christmas festivities.
This directive, aimed at maintaining order, was signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali on Tuesday.
As the celebrations unfold, the Christian community in Bangladesh is embracing the joy and unity that Christmas brings, with prayers, songs, and hope for a brighter, peaceful future.
