Social media platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp, became accessible this afternoon, starting around 2:00 pm. Users are now experiencing uninterrupted access to these services.
Md Emdadul Hoque, president of the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), announced, "All social media platforms have been reopened. We are also reactivating all cache servers, which may take 24 to 48 hours to fully restore service."
Mobile operators have also been instructed to lift the restrictions on social media.
The platforms became available shortly after Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister for ICT and Telecom, revealed the decision in a morning meeting with social media representatives at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
TikTok officials attended the meeting at BTRC Bhaban, while Meta`s representatives participated virtually from Singapore.
Palak indicated that the reopening of these platforms aims to support the e-commerce and F-commerce sectors.
On July 28, Palak had announced that letters were sent to social media companies, including Facebook and TikTok, requesting their presence by July 31.
Mobile internet services, which had been suspended for 10 days due to unrest over the job quota reform movement, were restored across the country around 3:00 pm on July 28.
