Bangladesh has received 10 lakh doses of Sinopharm vaccines as a gift from China.
Chartered flight BG-5065 carrying the doses took off Tianjin Binhai International Airport of China and landed on Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 6pm on Friday (August 13). The consignment included 4.1 tonnes of syringe.
A press release signed by Biman Bangadesh Airlines’ deputy director (Public Relation) Tahera Khandaker confirmed the news.
A flight of Biman will take off Dhaka at 10 am on Saturday and will return around 11:45 pm to bring another batch of Covid-19 shots, the press release read.
Earlier on May 12, China sent its first batch 5 lakh doses of the gifted vaccines. Some six lakh doses arrived on June 13. The total shots of the Chinese vaccine now stand at 21 lakh.
On the other hand, Bangladesh received 34 lakh 61 thousand 801 doses of Sinopharm vaccine under Covax project.
Bangladesh ordered 70 lakh doses of the company’s vaccines totalizing the figure of Sinopharm vaccine at 1 crore 25 lakh 61 thousand 801, The Report learned.
