Nationwide Covid-19 vaccination resumes

Vaccination campaign has resumed across the country in a bid to combat coronavirus infection after a break of two months.

The immunisation programme started with Chinese Sinopharm shots at all districts and upazilas of Bangladesh on Monday (July 12).  

Earlier on Sunday (July 11), the doses were sent to all vaccine centers of district and sub-district hospitals across the country.

Member secretary of health department’s Vaccine Deployment Committee Doctor Shamsul Haque on Sunday said, “Mass vaccination will resume on Monday with Sinopharm shots. Expatriates are given Pfizer vaccine at seven centers in Dhaka. The expats will get the shot on Tuesday (July 13) with Moderna jab at 12 citiy corporation areas. No need to come to Dhaka.”

Meanwhile, the registration for vaccination started on July 7. Some 9 lakh 55 thousand citizens have applied for vaccine in this phase taking the total number of applicant to 90 lakh 53 thousand 384.

Bangladesh started pushing vaccine doses on its citizen’s arms at Kurmitola Hospital in the capital on January 27 through inoculating vaccines produced by Oxford-AstraZeneca and given by Serum Institute of India.

Alongside, the authorities launched mass immunisation program on February 7 at 1 thousand 5 hospitals and clinics across the country.

Later the shot was postponed as India suspended vaccine export. Bangladesh attempted to bring vaccines from several other countries.

As part of government’s diplomatic efforts, China and the US responded as gave Sinopharm and Moderna vaccines to Bangladesh.
