Bangladesh to suspend first Covid doses after Feb 26

In a bid bolster the Covid-19 vaccination campaign, the Bangladesh government has announced that it will administer 100 lakh first dose Covid-19 shots on February 26.

With this ambitious goal, health authorities have also announced that they will draw up the inoculation drive for the first Covid-19 doses on the same day.

To strengthen the campaign for second and third (booster) doses, the government has decided to suspend the administration of first doses.

Dr ABM Khurshid Alam, head of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), revealed the plan at a virtual press conference on Tuesday.

“We will be busy administering the second and booster shots now. So those who haven’t received the first dose – please take the vaccine at your nearest centres,” he said.
