State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has expressed his expectation that the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) should become a role model for development.

He shared this vision on Wednesday, May 29, at the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected executive committee of the BIWTC Officers Association held at the National Museum in Shahbagh, Dhaka.

In his speech, the State Minister stated, "The Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was the turning point for our country‍‍`s independence. Under his leadership, we gained our freedom. He transformed a poverty-stricken nation into a developing country, pushing the GDP to nearly 9 percent. Those who failed in the liberation war conspired deeply to thwart Bangabandhu‍‍`s development. Ultimately, they assassinated him along with his family, plunging the country into darkness that it had never seen before."

Highlighting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a pivotal figure, he added, "Our current turning point is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Under her leadership over the past 15 years, Bangladesh has made significant progress. Bangladesh now stands tall on the global stage and has become a role model for development. If Bangladesh can become a development role model, why can‍‍`t BIWTC do the same?"
