Booster jab trial kicks off Sunday

The booster jab to contain the omicron variant will kick off tentatively Sunday, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque.

On Friday the minister said, “We will start administering the booster shot on trial basis from Sunday. Details will be disclosed from the health department.”

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) sources said, people aged over 60 who received two doses of coronavirus vaccine would get priority in booster dose. Fully-vaccinated frontliers would also get the priority in receiving the booster shot.

About 7 crore people of the country got their first shot of the coronavirus vaccine while almost 4.5 crore received two doses.

The new concern omicron variant raised the discussion on booster dose. Bangladesh already reported two cases of the new variant.
