BRTA to completely get rid of brokers?

Amdi reports of harassment of the service-seekers at Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri has vowed to make the entity completely broker-free.

“If anyone of BRTA is found involved with any kind of irregularities or corruption, necessary legal actions will be taken against him or her,” he said on Sunday.

He was addressing a workshop on Road Transport Rules 2022 at BRTA Conference Room at Banani, saying that multifaceted initiatives have been taken to digitize all services of BRTA.

He said under the rules, the drivers will be given 12 points on the driving license, and an incident of violation of traffic rules like overtaking and drunk driving will cut one point.

Points will decrease gradually in such a way and the driver's license will be automatically cancelled if seven points out of 12 are cut, he said.

He said none will be spared in incidents of violation of traffic rules.

Later, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Road Transport and Highways Division and the Posts and Telecommunications Division.

Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri and BRTA Chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder were present during the signing of the MoU, among others.

Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation general secretary Osman Ali, Mohakhali Inter-District Bus Owners Association president Abul Kalam Azad and Passenger Welfare Association secretary general Mozammel Haque were present at the workshop, among others.
