As the casualties from reckless driving continue in the country, a street cleaner of Dhaka South City Corporation died after a bus hit him near the south gate of National Mosque Baitul Mokarram in Dhaka on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Faruk Mia, 56, an outsourced employee of DSCC, reports The Daily Star citing police sources.
A bus of Swadesh Paribahan hit Faruk as he was sweeping the road around 7:45am, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 9:15am, said Mohsin Habib, a sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station.
Locals intercepted the bus following the incident but the driver managed to flee, the SI said. Faruk used to live in Ganaktuli area in Hazaribagh with his family. The body was sent to DMC morgue for autopsy.
