Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus visited BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at Evercare Hospital on Wednesday evening to check on her health condition.

His motorcade entered the hospital premises around 7pm, and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir received him at the gate. Fakhrul then accompanied the chief adviser to Khaleda Zia’s treatment unit, where several members of her medical team were present.

Prof Yunus spent about 30 minutes inside the hospital. During the visit, her doctors briefed him on her condition.

They said Khaleda Zia is being treated under the supervision of specialist doctors from Mount Sinai and Johns Hopkins in the United States, as well as experts from the United Kingdom, China, and other countries.

The chief adviser asked her family members and party leaders to remain patient and assured them of full government support. He also called on the people of Bangladesh to pray for her speedy recovery. National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman accompanied him during the visit.

Khaleda Zia has been admitted to Evercare Hospital since 23 November because of several long-term health problems. Her condition worsened on 27 November, and she was moved to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), where she is still receiving treatment.

On Tuesday night, the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force visited Khaleda Zia at the hospital. Earlier that day, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman also went to see her.

Security around Evercare Hospital has been tightened since her admission. Members of the SSF, PGR, police, and other law enforcement agencies are guarding the area, and the main entrance has been secured with barbed-wire barriers to control movement.

Her personal physician, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, said on Tuesday that the medical board believes Khaleda Zia is responding to treatment and that there is hope for improvement.
