Ex-BNP minister Nazmul Huda indicted over fake case

A Dhaka court today framed charges against former BNP minister Barrister Nazmul Huda in a case filed over lodging a fake case against former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.

Nazmul Huda, now on bail, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of the Special Judge Court-9 of Dhaka read out the charges to him.

Earlier in the day, the judge dismissed a petition submitted for discharging him from the charges of the case. The judge then fixed May 17 for starting trial of the case. On November 1 last year, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Benjir Ahmed, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against the former minister.

Nazmul Huda filed the case against the former Chief Justice SK Sinha with Shahbagh Police Station on September 27, 2018, for demanding bribe from him and changing the judgement of a graft case that had already been disposed of.

The ACC after probing the case for one and a half years found the allegations baseless and false.
