Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government, will embark on a significant visit to China on March 26.
The highlight of his trip will be a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on March 28, aimed at enhancing the relationship between the two nations.
Sources from Bangladesh`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs have revealed that the visit was arranged after extensive discussions between both countries over the past week.
However, the final schedule for the trip, as well as the topics of discussion, are still being finalized.
Focus on Boao Forum for Asia Conference
Professor Yunus’ visit primarily centers around attending the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) conference, which will take place in Hainan Province from March 25 to 28.
The BFA, known for attracting global leaders, business magnates, and academics, is a key platform where Asian and international issues are discussed.
This year, the forum will focus on "Asia in a Changing World: Towards a Shared Future," with topics such as development, dialogue, innovation, and global cooperation taking center stage.
The Chief Adviser is expected to join other world leaders and stakeholders at the event, which is considered a major forum for fostering collaboration and discussing pressing global challenges.
His participation underscores Bangladesh’s growing presence in regional and international dialogue platforms.
China’s Special Invitation to Yunus
Professor Yunus` visit to China comes at the invitation of Zhang Jun, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia.
As the two countries celebrate five decades of diplomatic ties, China has extended special courtesies to the Chief Adviser.
According to officials, China has offered to provide a chartered aircraft to transport Professor Yunus from Hainan to Beijing for his bilateral meeting with President Xi.
The meeting between Professor Yunus and President Xi is expected to explore ways to deepen cooperation between Bangladesh and China, particularly following the political shift in Bangladesh on August 5 last year, which saw a rise in student-led protests and a change in the country`s political landscape.
Travel Arrangements Around Bangladesh’s Independence Day
March 26, the date of the Chief Adviser’s departure, coincides with Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day celebrations.
It is expected that Professor Yunus will attend the state events in Dhaka before leaving for China. Due to the distance between Hainan and Beijing, special arrangements may be made for the Chief Adviser to travel using the chartered plane provided by the Chinese government.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
This trip marks a crucial step in reinforcing the relationship between Bangladesh and China, particularly as the two nations celebrate 50 years of diplomatic ties.
The recent visit to Beijing by Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain in January further solidified the groundwork for closer ties.
As Professor Yunus prepares for his high-level meeting with President Xi, both countries look forward to continued cooperation and mutual development, with this visit expected to pave the way for stronger political, economic, and diplomatic connections between Bangladesh and China.
