Civil surgeons across Bangladesh have called on the government to grant them limited authority to conduct mobile courts. They believe this power is essential for curbing illegal clinics and laboratories, fake doctors, broker networks, and counterfeit medicines.
Additionally, they proposed deploying Ansar personnel or a dedicated "health police" force to ensure security in hospitals.
The demands were presented on Monday during the opening ceremony of the first-ever nationwide Civil Surgeon Conference, held at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus inaugurated the two-day event.
Modeled after the District Commissioner Conference, this gathering brought together civil surgeons from all districts.
Following the inauguration, working sessions are scheduled to take place at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed International Convention Center, adjacent to Hotel InterContinental.
During the ceremony, Dhaka’s Civil Surgeon Dr. Md Zillur Rahman spoke on behalf of his peers. He emphasized that health workers often face threats due to a lack of proper security in hospitals.
To address this, he urged the government to deploy Ansar personnel or create a specialized health security force in all hospitals.
Dr. Rahman also reiterated the need for limited mobile court authority for civil surgeons to take effective action against health sector irregularities.
Additionally, he called for the creation of supernumerary positions to provide promotion opportunities for doctors serving in administrative roles.
The event was attended by members of the Advisory Council, special assistants to the Chief Adviser, secretaries and senior officials from various ministries, and representatives from different agencies.
