A seven-member commission has been formed to investigate the 2009 BDR mutiny incident, according to Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
He made this announcement on Monday, December 23, during an event in Dhaka that honored decorated freedom fighters and their families, as part of the 29th BGB Day celebrations.
During his speech, the Home Advisor also mentioned that a letter had been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, instructing them to take the necessary steps to contact India regarding the return of Sheikh Hasina.
He explained that her return would follow the prisoner extradition agreement between the two countries.
On the topic of Rohingya refugees crossing the borders, Jahangir Alam reaffirmed that the government’s position has not changed.
“We will not allow any Rohingyas to enter under any circumstances. Only those who are critically ill are being given shelter on humanitarian grounds,” he stated.
He also clarified a recent comment made by the Foreign Affairs Advisor about 60,000 Rohingyas entering Bangladesh in just two months, explaining that it was a "slip of the tongue."
Jahangir Alam clarified that the actual figure covers a period of one and a half to two years.
In addition, he addressed the issue of the harassment of freedom fighters in Cumilla, promising that those responsible would face legal action.
“We will make sure that anyone harassing our freedom fighters is brought to justice,” he assured.
