At least 16 people have lost their lives across 7 districts of Bangladesh following the onslaught of Cyclone Remal. Additionally, nearly 200,000 homes have been ravaged in 19 adjacent districts. Of these, 40,338 houses have been completely destroyed, while 133,528 have suffered partial damages.
These distressing statistics were reported by the National Disaster Response Coordination Center, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, in its daily briefing on Wednesday.
Last Saturday night, Bangladesh was struck by Cyclone Remal, causing widespread devastation. Many areas in the coastal regions were submerged due to heavy rainfall and storm surges.
Addressing journalists the next day, Minister of Disaster Management and Relief, Muhibbur Rahman, disclosed preliminary data indicating that a total of 35,483 houses had been fully destroyed, with an additional 114,992 suffering partial damages.
According to the latest information from daily disaster reports, the district most severely affected by the cyclone is Khulna, where 20,762 houses have been entirely destroyed. In Bagerhat, 10,000 homes have been damaged, with the remainder distributed across various districts.
The reports further reveal that approximately 4.6 million individuals have been affected by the cyclone`s wrath, spanning 19 districts in total. These districts include Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokathi, Barishal, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Barguna, Bhola, Feni, Cox`s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Narail, Gopalganj, Sherpur, and Jessore. Fatalities have been recorded in Khulna, Satkhira, Barishal, Patuakhali, Bhola, Chittagong, and Pirojpur.
