As BNP supporters gear up to welcome party chairperson Khaleda Zia from the airport to her Gulshan residence, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued special traffic directives to manage anticipated congestion across the capital.
To ease traffic flow, the DMP has temporarily allowed CNG-run autorickshaws and motorcycles to access the Dhaka Elevated Expressway from 7:00am to 1:00pm on Tuesday.
Users must pay the regular toll of Tk20, maintain a speed limit of 40km/h, and keep to the designated left-hand safety lane.
With large gatherings expected between Gulshan-Banani and Uttara, the DMP has advised commuters to avoid the area and opt for alternate routes, including Abdullahpur–Kamarpara–Dhour Bridge–Panchaboti–Mirpur embankment–Gabtoli.
The route from Mohakhali to Gulshan-1 via Police Plaza and Amtoli, as well as the expressway ramp toward Uttara and the airport, will remain open to traffic.
For travel to Uttara or Mirpur, the DMP has recommended using House Building, Zamzam Tower, Sector 12, Khalpar, and the metro rail stations at Uttara North and Central. Metro rail is also encouraged for easier commuting.
Responding to a request from the DMP, the military has opened up Zia Colony, Jahangir Gate, Sainik Club, and Staff Road for light vehicles from 8:00am to 2:00pm.
Railway authorities will extend two-minute stops for intercity trains at Tongi, Airport, and Tejgaon stations from morning until noon. Additionally, a special shuttle train will run on the Kamalapur–Tongi route.
The DMP has urged Hajj pilgrims, international travelers, and SSC exam candidates to allow extra travel time and leave home early to avoid delays.
