The body of Ezaz Bin Alim, who died while being treated in the custody of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police, has been handed over to his family following an autopsy on Sunday afternoon.
The autopsy took place at the Dhaka Medical College morgue, and the Mohammadpur Police transferred the body to his family afterward.
Ezaz, 37, was originally from the Sadar Thana area in Tangail district.
He had been living in a residence on 49/A Sher-e-Bangla Road in Dhanmondi. His father’s name is Shah Alam Khan.
Speaking to the media, Ezaz’s brother, Abid Bin Alim, said, “After the autopsy, I received my elder brother Ezaz’s body. We are now taking him to Dhanmondi, where his funeral prayer will take place, and he will be buried.”
According to Sub-Inspector Sheikh Kader Ahmed of Mohammadpur Police Station, Ezaz was arrested on March 11 by a combined team of COEL and the Army.
He was transferred to Mohammadpur Police, where, due to his illness, he was given primary medical treatment twice.
He was later presented before a court and granted bail the following day.
On March 15, while receiving treatment at the Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital, Ezaz was re-arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) police.
He was then admitted to the Nephrology Department of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Unfortunately, Ezaz passed away under treatment in the hospital at 8 p.m. on the same day, in Ward 901.
In a report prepared by the police during the inquest process, it was noted that Ezaz had a CV line inserted on the right side of his neck, which was bandaged with a cannula.
Old scars were visible in the middle of his chest and abdomen, while his chest and abdomen appeared normal.
The report also mentioned blood clots in his back with red and white bruises.
There were marks on his wrists, indicating the use of handcuffs, and cannula marks on his right wrist.
Further, bruises and blood clots were observed from the back of his thighs to his buttocks, and his legs appeared slightly swollen.
Sub-Inspector Sheikh Kader confirmed that after completing the autopsy, Ezaz’s body was handed over to his family for burial.
