Families of the victims of Jhalakathi launch fire will receive Tk 25,000 from the district administration of Barguna to meet burial expenses.
Deputy Commissioner Habibur Rahman said on Friday (December 24), "Most of the victims who have succumed burn injuries, and others undergoing treatment are residents of this district, as they were on their way to Barguna.
The families of the injured will receive Tk 15,000.
So far 39 people have died from the launch fire accident .
A midnight fire swept through the launch on the Sugandha river in the southern district of Jhalakathi. The vehicle was carrying more than 600 passengers.
The death toll is likely to climb as more passengers have been critically injured when the Barguna-bound launch caught fire. At least 72 passengers injured in the fire accident have been taken to local hospitals.
