Faridpur becomes new Covid hotspot

Faridpur district has turned as a new Covid-19 hotspot in Bangladesh as the infection surged recent days.

As many as 21 people died of coronavirus in last 24 hours on Saturday (July 17) while undergoing treatment after diagnosed positive or admitted with symptoms.

Faridpur district civil surgeon Doctor Siddikur Rahman confirmed the matter to The Report.

“21 patients have died while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College (BSMMC). Among them, 16 were tested positive for the virus while five were admitted with Covid-like symptoms,” He said.  

The District Surgeon office head said, “With 44 admitted in last 24 hours, 406 people are now being treated at the hospital. Among them, 293 were tested positive for the virus.”

Doctors, nurses and other medical staffs are struggling the handle the situation.

On Friday, at least 960 people were diagnosed with the infection across the district with a 31.73 per cent infection rate.

A total of 309 people died in the virus and 15 thousand 667 cases are reported in Faridpur.
