Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has said that the prosecution has “proved beyond doubt” the allegations in the crimes against humanity case against three accused, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, over the atrocities committed during the July–August Mass Uprising.
Presenting his closing arguments before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1, headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Mojumder, the Attorney General stated that the prosecution had placed “documentary, oral, and circumstantial evidence” establishing the charges.
“The defence claimed the accused gave no orders and were innocent. Fortunately, they did not deny the July Uprising itself, nor the deaths of 1,400 people or injuries to over 30,000 others,” Asaduzzaman said during his argument.
“But if we acknowledge that such a massive uprising took place nationwide — that killings were carried out under state patronage using the state’s own machinery — then one must ask, who committed these crimes?” he added.
According to the Attorney General, the prosecution has clearly demonstrated who perpetrated the atrocities, the methods used, and the individuals under whose directives the crimes were executed.
