After days of discomfort due to intense heat, Bangladesh is likely to experience continuous rainfall starting Sunday, according to the Meteorological Department.
Meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallick told the media that rain is expected to begin on Sunday, with its intensity increasing from the following day. Continuous rainfall is likely to persist across the country until June 22.
There are warnings of potential landslides in the hilly regions of Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Bandarban, Rangamati, and Cox’s Bazar due to the anticipated heavy rain.
Mallick also cautioned about the possibility of temporary waterlogging in some areas, along with strong gusty winds and occasional thunderstorms.
"Recently, lightning strikes have caused significant casualties," Mallick added. "Whenever thunder is heard, people must immediately seek shelter indoors, as there is no other way to stay safe."
The average rainfall in Bangladesh for the month of June is 459.4 millimeters, while July typically sees 523 millimeters, August 420.4 millimeters, and September 318.2 millimeters.
According to the latest weather bulletin, from Saturday morning until the next 24 hours, scattered rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.
Parts of the areas in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions may also experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms.
Additionally, moderately heavy rainfall is likely in some parts of the country during this period.
