Dhaka Sadarghat has experienced more pressure of homegoers on the second day of weekly holiday. However, no launch left the terminal for Barishal due to what the authority said a scarcity of travellers.
According to Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), as many as 78 launches left Sadarghat for various destinations in the southern part of the country from 6 am to 5 pm Saturday while 93 launches returned to the dock.
“The number of travellers has increased than the previous day, but it is fewer than other Eid vacations. More holidaymakers are expected throng to the terminal after Iftar,” said Alamgir Kabir, BIWTA official at Dhaka River Port.
A mobile court operation was underway to check the transportation of additional passengers.
Besides, police, Rab, coastguard and Ansar personnel have been deployed to ensure security. Firefighters and volunteers have also been deployed to tackle any emergency.
