Police have arrested a woman and her son for allegedly strangling her 29-year-old daughter to death in Jashore's Bejpara area on Wednesday.
The deceased is Farhana Parveen Urmi, a student of the second-year English Department of Dhaka University.
Kotwali Police Station announced the arrest of Foyez Razzak Fardin, 23, a second-year LLB student of American International University of Bangladesh, and his mother Irin Parveen, 52, on Thursday for the killing of Urmi.
Jewel Imran, additional superintendent of Kotwali Police, said Urmi used to live with her mother and brother in a rented house in Bejpara Russell Chatwar area of Jashore town as she was mentally sick.
On Tuesday night, Foyez Razzak Fardin suffocated his sister Urmi to death over a family dispute.
Later, Fardin and his mother took the body to their village in Magura's Shalikha upazila on Wednesday afternoon for burial. Finding injury marks on Urmi's head, Rabiul Islam, uncle of the victim informed police.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Jashore General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Urmi's brother and mother were also taken into police custody for questioning.
After confessing to the murder, they were shown arrested in a case filed by the victim's uncle Rabiul Islam, added ASP Jewel Imran.
