National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman has stated that no one has discussed—and no one will discuss—a humanitarian corridor with Bangladesh regarding Rakhine.
Speaking at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy on Wednesday, May 21, he clarified that a corridor is meant for emergency evacuation from disaster-stricken areas, and Bangladesh is not moving anyone.
He explained that since no aid is currently reaching Rakhine, the United Nations has only requested Bangladesh to assist in transporting aid across the border. The UN, through its partners, will deliver humanitarian assistance inside Rakhine.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman emphasized unequivocally that Bangladesh has neither discussed nor will discuss any corridor with anyone.
He further stated that given the unstable situation in Arakan, there is no need to create a corridor or facilitate movement of people there.
Regarding the repatriation of Rohingyas, he said repatriation cannot be considered as long as the situation in Arakan remains unstable. Without the possibility of repatriation, discussions on repatriation strategies are also not feasible.
Responding to questions about the corridor, he dismissed it as a non-existent issue and questioned why discussions would take place on something that does not exist.
