Police have detained 11 people including Noakhali district Swechchhasebak Dal vice-president and a Jamaat leader over the alleged attack on temple, puja venues and homes of Hindu community in Begumganj upazila.
The detentions were made during separate drives launched at various places of the district on Sunday (October 24).
Noakhali district police super Md. Shahidul Islam came up with the information during a press conference held at his office around 11 am Monday (October 25).
The detainees are Md. Rayhan (38) and Faysal Bari Chowhdury (45) of Noakhali Sadar upazila, East Charmatua union Chhatradal member secretary Belayet Hossain (26), Parvez Hossain (29) of Chatkhil upazila, Abdul Barek (55) from Sonaimuri, Mintu (23) and Alauddin (32), Fazlur Rakirm Suman (32), Abdul Baki Shamim (41) of Companyganj, district Swechchhasebak Dal vice-president Faysal Inam Kamol (39), and Bijbag union parishad’s former chairman Jamaat leader Md. Harunur Rashid in Senbag upazila.
“The arrestees were held during multiple drives based on specific information. They provoked people to destabilse the situation of the country,” SP Md. Shahidul Islam said.
He said, as many as 26 cases were filed following the violence amid Puja festival while 192 are detained. Of them 90 are accused in case list and 102 suspects.
